Patan City of Nepal

Patan means "commercial city" in Nepalese and also named Lalitpur which means "City of Art". It is the second largest city in Nepal, a famous ancient capital and the commercial center of ancient Kathmandu valley. In 1980, Patan was listed by UNESCO as one of the 18 key protective ancient cities of Asia. Patan (Lalitpur) is 3 km away from Kathmandu, Bagmati River bridge connects the two cities. Patan is a historic city which covers an area of 18 square kilometers, with a population of 600,000. Known as the "City of Art", Patan has many ancient temples, the most famous Golden Temple was built in the twelfth century. It is the trade center of barley, rice, wheat, millet etc. Metals and precious stones processing industry is very important, hydropower station is on the eastern side of the Sun Kosi River.
   On June 19, 2013, Xining City and Patan City formally concluded as sister cities.
